Unit Title: Political Economy and Rural Development
Political economy deals with political issues and decisions on policies that influences or regulates the economic development of a country or society.
Political economy and rural development are interrelated and intertwined. In the global, political and economic context, these two terminologies are inseparable and must be defined within the context of socio-political and rural development perspectives. This is significant as economic policies drives changes and decisions which harness and regulates market prices at global and regional market which significantly influences rural economy of a country.
In realizing this process, the role of the government is paramount in coordination in that to maintain socio-economic growth and balance within Solomon Islands economy as a global economic partner, key stakeholders such as relevant government bodies, private sectors, State-Owned, Business Partners and rural entrepreneurs and farmers are equally important to drive political, rural economic development and sustainability.
