Unit Title: Language and Society
In this unit you will discover through various topics, the place and value of language in society- the different roles language fulfill as an important part of human existence, language and Christianity, language in education, language diversity, language and culture, language and nation building, language for specific trades and purposes, language and technology, and Solomon Islands language situation. Since English is the target language of teaching and learning in schools and the official language of the government, the language of study for the course will be English. Hence, there will also be a topic on the World of English, and its role as an international language of communication. There will also be reference to local languages, and emerging international languages, hence knowledge of one or more local and international languages is crucial.
