Unit Title: Textiles and Garment Construction
The traditional and modern textiles human use are produced from basic raw materials called fibers, extracted from both natural and synthetic sources. This unit is designed to enhance student’s knowledge and understanding of textiles to enable them to select suitable fabrics for specific end uses. The course provides opportunity for students to conduct burning tests to identify fibre content of unknown fabrics and to study the properties of Cotton, polyester, acrylic and wool. The practical components of this unit enable students to acquire advanced sewing techniques and processes used in garment construction. Students are encouraged to evaluate their sewing project and be able to suggest improvements.
