Unit Title: Extension & Occupational Health & Safety (OHS)

The course will enable the students to have a clear and definite understanding to observe and adhere to the  in social and forestry extension which covers the following instructional areas: the importance of social forestry, procedures and steps involved in preparation and implementation of management plan for private forestry and community forestry, the  importance of social forestry and carrying the activities related to it, decentralization, peoples’ participation and empowerment of communities in managing the natural resources, procedures in preparation of management plan for private forestry, and procedures and steps involved in the preparation of management plan for community forestry, the modules also deals with the basics of extension and extension methods, acquaint them with the various tools for the dissemination of innovations, different extension methods, teaching and learning process and organizing trainings, adoption and diffusion process with emphasis on the factors that affect adoption and the social and cultural factors in extension and exhibition and PRA tools practice in rural setting.

The second part introduces the students on the safety standards and instructions which covers the followings instructional areas; adhere to the safety standards and instructions which covers the following instructional areas: forest industries environmental workplace procedures, factors that could improve environmental performance and keep records of environmental attributes, aware of rules and procedures of health and safety at work and aware of hazards and risks in forestry, procedures with regard to chemical handling and contamination prevention, how to carrying out emergency action and fire prevention and fighting procedures, and methods of protecting water sources.
