Unit Title: Forest Health & Protection
The unit introduces the students on forest health and protection which covers the following instructional areas: be able to protect the forests from manmade and natural destruction by applying appropriate protection methods and enforcing forestry rules and regulations, develop the ability to identify forest pests and disease outbreaks and understand the life cycle of important pests and pathogens to Solomon Islands forests, demonstrate knowledge of the forest protection regulations, authorities, and research facilities; potential threats to the health of SI forests and forest products from fungi, insects, and abiotic causes; the methods of detecting and preventing their introduction, deals in-depth about forest fire fighting, handling of equipment, safety measures for firefighters, and prevention of forest fire though reduction of hazards, and raising awareness using different media.
