Unit Title: Natural Disaster and Disaster Management
This unit introduces students to the types of disasters; related factors, effects and the management approaches that can be used to minimize the impacts of a disaster. Students will also be able to explain why certain disasters occur more often than others or none at all in the Solomon Islands. Students will carry out drills and respond appropriately to the nature of the disaster, are in a position to provide advice on disaster preparedness, and carry out evaluation and risk assessment on pre- and post-disaster events. Roles and functions of key management agencies in the Solomon Islands will be explained.
