Dr Patricia Rodie: New Dean of the Faculty of Education & Humanities

The Solomon Islands National University has a new Dean of the Faculty of Education and Humanities. She is Dr Patricia Rodie, one of our local female academics. Dr Rodie is not new to SINU. She was once the former Head of School of Education and Deputy Director of the Solomon Islands College of Higher Education (SICHE) and later the Pro-Vice-Chancellor Academic at SINU before moving on to USP Solomon Islands Campus as Lecturer and later as Acting Campus Director.

Dr Patricia Rodie obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in Education at the University of Waikato, Hamilton, New Zealand in 2011; Master of Education at the Curtin University of Technology, Perth, Australia and; Bachelor of Education at the University of South Pacific, Fiji. Dr Rodie has published several publications in some leading and reputable journals.

Dr Rodie said she applied for the position of Dean after repeated advertisements of the media. Dr Rodie said, “Being a former staff of SICHE and part of the transition team of SICHE to SINU and as a Solomon Islander Academic, I felt obliged with a willing heart to return and to help address some of the challenges the University is currently facing”. Dr Rodie further expressed that she believes in her current pool of staff at FEH to help her address the challenges faced and to bring a positive image to the Faculty of Education and Humanities.

Dr Rodie revealed that FEH has offered the first Masters Programme at SINU- Master of Educational Leadership and Change, commencing in Semester 2, 2021. Dr Rodie further revealed that plans are also in place to offer higher quality programmes in other fields such as Journalism in the School of Humanities.

Dr Patricia Rodie assumed duty as of November 1, 2021.
