Honiara, Solomon Islands – Professor Transform Aqorau, Vice Chancellor of Solomon Islands National University (SINU), has extended formal invitations to the nominees for the Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands to participate in a public symposium. This event is scheduled for Wednesday, May 1st, 2024, at the Kukum Lecture Theatre on the SINU campus.

Professor Aqorau emphasized the university’s commitment to fostering public engagement, stating, “As the premier academic institution in the Solomon Islands, SINU is deeply committed to fostering public dialogue and providing a neutral, objective space for the exchange of ideas that stimulate public policy discourse.”

The symposium is designed to offer a platform where political leaders can articulate their vision and policy platforms to the public, aligning with SINU’s mission to facilitate informed discourse. “This symposium serves as a crucial forum where potential leaders can engage directly with the electorate, enhancing the democratic process by fostering a more informed electorate,” Professor Aqorau explained.

The Vice Chancellor also highlighted the role of SINU in the broader context of national development: “SINU stands as a beacon of knowledge and dialogue in our country. By hosting this symposium, we are not only supporting the democratic process but also emphasising the university’s role in shaping a future where informed discourse leads to effective governance.”

While awaiting confirmations from the invitees, the university remains hopeful for their participation. Professor Aqorau added, “We are hopeful that the nominees will recognise the importance of this platform, not only for their political campaigns but as a crucial step towards transparent and accountable leadership.”

The symposium will also be available via Facebook Live, ensuring that a broader audience can engage with the discussions, even if they cannot attend in person.

“This event represents a significant opportunity to demonstrate leadership and commitment to public discourse at a crucial time in our nation’s history. Engaging in this symposium will not only amplify the voices of the leaders but also reinforce the role of SINU as a hub for critical discussion and policy analysis,” said Professor Aqorau.
