Solomon Islands National University Faculty of Education & Humanities gathered this afternoon at the Facultyโs Conference room to mark International Womenโs Day (IWU).
The facultyโs Dean Dr. Patricia Rodie organized the small event, getting women together in her faculty to reflect on this yearโs theme ๐๐ง๐ฏ๐๐ฌ๐ญ ๐ข๐ง ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐๐ง: ๐๐๐๐๐ฅ๐๐ซ๐๐ญ๐ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ ๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐ฌ.
The women had a round-the-table discussion and reflection on their personal and professional journey.
Reflecting on the theme, Dr. Rodie said that this yearโs theme is aimed at promoting the economic empowerment of women.
โI believe FEH and SINU at large have over the years been providing learning opportunities for young girls and women to pursue studies towards their career of choice so that they could seek employment and earn an income or start their own business using the knowledge and skills they have learned during their studies.”
Dr. Rodie said that SINU is tackling economic disempowerment by playing the different roles that the institution plays towards the education of young women and girls who passed through the Solomon Islands National University.
In closing her reflection Dr Rodie wanted to encourage everyone: โLet us inspire our young girls to work hard and complete their studies successfully and to secure a job after completing studies and also encourage them to start their own business if they want to and capable to do it using the knowledge and skills they have learned from this institution.”
Meanwhile, Dr. Rodie said that over the years, she realized that women in academia werenโt invited to the national international Womenโs Day celebration and that she hopes in the future, women in academia can also be part of the larger celebration and also share their stories as well.
The International Womenโs Day is celebrated annually worldwide on March 8.
