A new tilling machine has been generously donated to the Faculty of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry’s farm by Mr. Yang Jian Qing, Director of JQY. This marks a significant contribution to agricultural development and hands-on education at the Solomon Islands National University (SINU).

The official handover ceremony was held at the faculty farm, where the equipment was received by Acting Dean and Head of the Agriculture Department, Mr. Patterson Giza, along with Acting Farm Manager Mr. Markmaster Hamata, departmental staff, and farm workers.

In his remarks, Mr. Giza expressed heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Yang and JQY for their timely and valuable support.

“On behalf of the faculty and the farm team, I would like to thank Mr. Yang for this very important machine. It will greatly support our farming operations, particularly for tilling. The machine will reduce physical labour, save time, and boost overall farm productivity,” Mr. Giza stated.

Mr. Yang also shared his motivation for the donation, highlighting his commitment to agricultural progress in the Solomon Islands.

“I am happy to provide this support to SINU, especially in the field of agriculture. It is important to help increase local food production, strengthen farming practices, and enhance students’ practical learning through access to modern equipment,” he said.

The tilling machine is expected to significantly enhance the practical training of agriculture students while improving the efficiency and output of the faculty’s farm operations.
