Unit Title: Material Technology 1 –Wood
This unit offers knowledge and skills of wood and other indigenous materials in both traditional and modern practices in Solomon Islands society. The contents of the unit will provide you with the broad knowledge and skills required for working with wood and other indigenous materials in supporting human survival and advancing development in society. Firstly, it will offer further knowledge and skills in wood as a material, its processes and then their wood products. Additionally, other indigenous materials and products used in Solomon Islander will be learnt. Finally, this unit encourages innovation of wood materials in a sustainable manner like recycling and for learners to develop a caring attitude to the environment.
