Unit Title:Β Solomon Islands History

This Unit introduces students to some important parts of the history of Solomon Islands as a country that have historically evolved, hence establishing itself as a sovereign nation state in 1978. The unit focuses 3 on the peopling of the Solomon Islands during the pre-contact era, imperialism and colonialism, decolonization and the post-independent era. The unit surveys the original exploration and colonization by Archie-Melanesians, of Solomon Islands and the ways they developed their societies. Through Explorers, beachcombing, traders, planters and the labour trade, British colonial administration and islander’s responses to these changing circumstances are also critically examined.
