HIS601

Unit Code: HIS601

Unit Title: Pacific History

This unit offers students an opportunity to extend their knowledge and understanding of European colonialism and capitalism in the Pacific region. It critically analyses its economic, social, political and religious’ impacts on the lives of Pacific island societies up to and during the early twentieth century. Attention will be centred on the islanders as the main subject of their own historical making, showing that Pacific islanders were not passive in the formation of their past but are active participants in deciding what their present and future would hold for them.
