Unit Title: Guidance and Counseling
This unit offers an understanding of important concepts, principles, the need for guidance and counselling, and implications of areas of guidance and counselling in education on the Solomon Islands and global contexts. In the endeavour to be a teacher, teacher trainee will wish to be as effective to help, guide and counsel students for successful living. The topics covered include the meaning, nature and scope, goals and principles and need for guidance and counselling, guidance and counselling services, educational and vocational guidance and counselling, personal and group guidance and counselling, counselling principles and processes, types of counselling, counselling services, organising counselling services at school, psychotherapy, testing, and non-testing techniques. This unit is made out specifically for teachers in, primary and secondary schools.
