Department of Environmental Studies

Overview


The Environment department is one of the departments that is under the Faculty of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (FAFF) Kukum Campus, East Honiara. The Department currently offers a Certificate and Diploma in Environmental Studies and is presently developing its bachelor’s program which is expected to roll out by 2023. The department is committed to training future professionals in the field of environmental studies. In doing so, the department will continue to liaise with its stakeholders, and regional organizations and collaborate with Universities from abroad in research to ensure higher degrees are developed that suits the development need of the country and the region as a whole.

Our program equips our graduates with the following skills and knowledge:

  • Promote awareness of environmental issues at the national and community level.
  • Carry out Environmental Impact Assessment and write up the reports.
  • Gain skills in carrying out surveys and assessing environmental damage and writing reports.
  • Collect data related to ecosystems.
  • Support communities to understand environmental laws and regulations.
  • Support communities in terms of disaster preparedness and counter-disaster operations.
  • Promote green development.
  • Integrate and manage natural resources
  • Gain skills and produce land use plans through the use of GIS techniques
