Unit TitleMarine Biology

With particular reference to Solomon Islands, this unit is focused on Tropical Marine Biology. Contents include the biology of the three main marine coastal environments of the tropics, namely coral reef, sea grass meadow and mangroves forest. These environments are studied and explored during field visits. The biology shallow water benthic communities, plankton and deep-sea organisms are presented and the iconic marine mega fauna of the tropical Pacific will be considered. A major field visit, taken during the mid-semester break, comprises a significant part of the unit.
